LETTING GO

15 May Open Class | 16-17 May workshop

In the 5Rhythms Chaos is the art of shaking things up. It is a deeply refreshing process where we let go of old things and make space for the new. Chaos is also the gateway to our intuition; a deep sea of inner knowing. However before entering chaos there is a threshold we need to cross. At the doorway we are met by the question:  ´Who are you and are you willing to give that up?´ Chaos asks for surrender; the surrender of our bodies to the dance, so our identity can be shaken and dissolve into our bigger Selves.

Although some of us readily enter the fast flow and ecstatic beats of Chaos, others might struggle. In daily life a loss of control often comes in the form of a collapse: we lose it, freak out or go to pieces, and so Chaos might scare us. In this weekend workshop we’ll look for practices that ease our way into Chaos and that support us during the ride. In this way the rhythm of Chaos can become our teacher. We’ll do breath work, body work and of course a lot of dancing. While Chaos can be cathartic and ecstatic, it can also be soft and subtle. It requires our full presence; our willingness to embrace whatever is there and then.. to let go.

A 5RHYTHMS WEEKEND WORKSHOP FOR NEW AND EXPERIENCED DANCERS ON THE RHYTHM OF CHAOS

The 5Rhythms is a dynamic movement practice where we both meditate and rock our bodies in the same breath. It has 5 phases or rhythms that take dancers on a journey of tuning in (flowing), expressing (staccato), surrendering (chaos), expanding (lyrical) and being (stillness). Anyone, regardless of age or physical condition, can dance the 5Rhythms. You only need a body that breathes, a heart that beats and a willingness to be curious.

Léon Beckx is a certified 5Rhythms movement facilitator and has been teaching the 5Rhythms since 2008. Léon grew up with martial arts and hip hop and has a professional background in psychology and community building. In his workshops and classes Léon includes inspirations from other movement practices such as instant composition, contact improvisation and the field of somatics. His teaching style is experimental and subtle with much focus on our bodies innate intelligence.

All of Léon's classes & workshops count as Wave hours for the 5Rhythms Teacher Training
