Riding the Wave
The 5Rhythms is a moving meditation practice. Much like a surfer riding a wave we practice balance in motion. In this day workshop we´ll explore riding the wave of our life force. This means opening up to the life force as well as learning how to move with it. Learning to ride the wave might seem like a obvious life skill. However most of us have a lifelong learning in suppressing impulses and feelings in order to fit in. Instead of holding back, our first step in this workshop will be to open up to whatever is there. Whether it´s boredom, feeling drained or overjoyed; we give it space, movement and expression. At the same time we practice staying grounded and awake, developing a sense of center, a moving center, that keeps us balanced.
Together the 5 rhythms - Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness – form a wave of energy. Each rhythm holds a different key in learning to ride this wave. In our day workshop we´ll explore these lessons as we ride the wave after wave...

A 5RHYTHMS DAY WORKSHOP FOR NEW AND EXPERIENCED DANCERS ON BALANCE IN MOTION
The 5Rhythms is a dynamic movement practice where we both meditate and rock our bodies in the same breath. It has 5 phases or rhythms that take dancers on a journey of tuning in (flowing), expressing (staccato), surrendering (chaos), expanding (lyrical) and being (stillness). Anyone, regardless of age or physical condition, can dance the 5Rhythms. You only need a body that breathes, a heart that beats and a willingness to be curious.
Léon Beckx is a certified 5Rhythms movement facilitator and has been teaching the 5Rhythms since 2008 in his hometown Amsterdam and abroad. Léon grew up with martial arts and hip hop and has a professional background in psychology and community building. In his workshops and classes Léon includes inspirations from other movement practices such as instant composition, contact improvisation and the field of somatics. His teaching style is experimental and subtle with much focus on our bodies innate intelligence.
All of Léon's classes & workshops count as Wave hours for the 5Rhythms Teacher Training
